A. Eunotus Biotope

Hi yall,

Does anyone have any pictures of the habitats A. Eunotus (Or any of the "variants" for that matter) comes from? I'm going to be restarting my pair's tank soon and would like to try to set up something similar to a biotope. Any inspiration for the tank is greatly appreciated

I have indeed seen those images, but I need more inspiration, ideally, images from below the surface

Go to youtube, search for underwater footage from south america, maybe add "blackwater" or "clearwater". Other useful keywords: Igapo and Igarape,

I think you might struggle for Apistogramma eunotus specifically, it comes from clear and white water streams <"https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/new-apistogramma-eunotus.10335/#post-55832"> in the Andes piedmont.

These don't tend to be favoured for underwater photography, presumably because they are often cloudy.

Personally I'd go with a sand substrate, plenty of structural leaf litter and floating plants like Pistia stratiotes and Limnobium laevigatum. I have Cryptocoryne ssp., Bolbitis heudelotii and Anubias barteri, the latter three aren't from S. America, but they do well low nutrients.

The only thing I ever change is how soft the water is, in this case I wouldn't be too worried about getting under 4 dGH / 4 dKH because they come from water with some bases.

Having collected various forms of the eunotus-subcomplex in Peru I personally wouldn't want a display tank that represents their natural habitat. I think Darrels suggestions would be better. Natural habitats have a lot of leaf litter and submerged wood with a thick coating of algae.

Looks about right, but only more algae and mulm.
