I was wondering if anything ever became of the west african study group? I remember reading about one possibly starting up on the forum a couple months ago but have not seen anything on it since. Would like to be apart of it.

fisheads,
Yes, we were talking about that awhile back. I think that it is a great idea and am all for it. I have been so busy in the past few months that I have not given it much thought. But I would like to see it happen. Maybe we can start talking about what it would require and get it going. If we had a West African study group by next ACA, it would be nice. After all, Dr. Lamboj is scheduled to speak. There would be no better time to get his cooperation in our efforts.

Hello Neil, you can count me in on any West African Study group. You can also count me in for helping with anything you might need to get it going. I think it is over due that there was some sort of source out there dedicated to West African Cichlids. I have some experience in starting up a club as I was one of the original people to help get the Canadian Killifish Association going again after it was dormant for a couple of years. Let me know what you might need from me and also if any one else is interested please let us know!

There is a group on yahoo- [email protected]
There seems to be growing interest in west africans, especially since availibility of new species is increasing. Last months ACA in Cincinnati had an informative talk on westies by Paul Loiselle, and several new to me species were available- I picked up N. dimidiatus Leza and Pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus; I was previously keeping only S. Americans cichlids!

nhokawa,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Yes, the Yahoo group has some very knowledgeable people that post from time to time, but participation is sporatic, at best. I haven't gotten an email notification for quite some time now.
