These were sold as wc bitaeniata - one of 5 - this one might be a miss or if stuffy Ms.

My understanding is the rio Nanay population is a little less flashy then some of the other populations but of course this is what the seller told the importer so who knows - maybe it is really a bunny from south dakota.

The bitaeniata from the Rio Nanay/Mazon/Mormon is a genetically different species from those in other locations in the Amazon Basin. It was listed as "A. sp. 5" in Tougard et al. 2017. Some of these population (like from the Rio Momon) are more colorful than other populations in this species. Other species in the bitaeniata-complex are similarly colored to the fish in the photo, so without a positively known collecting location it is impossible to say which species that you have (without a DNA test).

Yea - obviously there is no way to know for sure unless I catch them myself or have a personal relationship with the catcher - as the exporter might not actually know where the catcher obtained them.

Anyway here are some more pictures of three different individuals - i used a flash-light in some of them to help enhance the colours - unfortunately i didn't have the one with teh adjustable intensity in the room and i didn't want to annoy them too much:

This is the one from down stairs (I have 3 but didn't want to mix the species out of concern they were from different catch locations):

These are some of the tank mates in the 100 with the 5 new bits:

There are a large number of pygmy and ruby - the pygmy mostly stay at the far end by the filter which is approx 45 inches away and the ruby float mostly in the front where the current is reduced.

I'm pretty sure the ones downstairs are a different catch location if not a different species - they just look different but they are also a bit larger the problem is the sure female was doa and the 2nd female might be a male...

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
