Hey guys,
If you're like me, and live in an area where the tap water is the consistency of runny cement, you have trouble making water soft enough for your critters. Here's a list of the various water softening products we have for sale and use in our shrimp tanks to maintain a pH between 5.0 and 6.5 depending on species.
None of these products will leave anything in your tank that isn't safe or even beneficial to your for your apistos. They also change the buffering capacity of the water, so unless you have something in the tank that is actively raising pH (crushed coral, limestone rocks, etc), you shouldn't have to fight pH rebound after using them.
BorneoWild Humic $14
Maintains pH between 6.0 and 6.5 and gH 3-4. 1 bottle treats a 20 gallon tank for up to a year. Natural humic acid and peat extracts. Also improves plant growth when used under the substrate.
EbiKen Sosei $9
Highly dissolvable natural fulvic acid. Softens water. Requires a little more effort and measuring to get your water exactly where you want it, but can adjust water to about any pH.
Mosura SoftWater $24
Reusable resin that lowers pH, gH, and kH. Works VERY well, but you need to keep an eye on this. Put it in your filter until the water conditions are where you want them and then take it out. Otherwise it will just keep going.....which can be a very unfortunate mistake
