Vielfleck vs. Bitaeniata

At an upcoming event I'll have the opportunity to buy a new species of apistogramma. There's quite some choice and I have to admit I like all of them but I managed to bring my choice down to Vielfleck and Bitaeniata.

Between these two species, which would you say is most suitable for a relative beginner like me?

Also you will be able to find Bitaeniata much easier in the future than you will the A.sp 'Veilfleck' You have one or two excellent exporters that use this forum, they can get you A.bitaeniata pretty much all year round. A.sp 'Veilfleck' may not even be collected again if the Belo monte dam project wipes out its natural habitat.

Get the veilfleck and try to maintain them long term, thats what we are doing here in the UK.

I'll be buying the fish from someone who said he had easier access to Vielfleck, neither species will be wild caught so I guess that's the difference.

Anyway, I do think I'll go for the Vielfleck especially cause I would like to have a species that is not too hard to breed. I also enjoyed reading the thread about the species on the BCA forum.

With exporters active in this forum, do you mean people selling wild caught or aquarium bred fish? And will they ship to the Netherlands?

Be aware that it is not legal to import fish via postal service in The Netherlands.
The customs people are very slow and sometimes it will be at customs for more than a week. Even if sent by EMS service.
You should do this via official way's and I can tell you only a health certificate will be approx. € 125,-

Purchased 2 trio's of the Vielfleck yesterday and I'm very happy with them, I think they're beautiful fish!

They're still very shy but I see some of them slowly getting a bit more brave.

The event was Vivarium, an annual two-day aquarium and terrarium fair. I bought them of someone who sells fish for German breeders at fairs like these, he usually has a lot of nice species. I think the next event he'll be at will be the Limbeurs in Belgium on the 1st of July.

Other than that, Aqua Ferrytale (Almere) and Rifwacher (Hilversum) have plenty of species, in Amersfoort there's a shop called Utaka where they have wild caught species too but I've never been there.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
