Valid apisto species list

A recent discussion on this forum about finding info on known apisto species has stimulated me to create a list (based on Catalog of Fishes - considered the most reliable source among some professional marine ichthyologists I've worked with). Currently it only contains scientifically described 'valid' species, there are 94, and it includes information on original species description publication, catch location of the holotype, and general distribution if given. It also lists scientific names that are considered synonyms or incorrectly used names for non-apistogramma species. The list is on my google cloud server at:

http://biodives.com/apistogramma/

There are similar lists and I really like the one on apisto.sites.no which includes a lot of original observations by the authors. My goal is to add personal observations and pictures for the species I've kept. Too many sites regurgitate what others have said so I will probably just include links to other primary information sources.

When I complete web pages on individual apisto species I'll link them into the list and post it on this thread. If there are errors or omissions for VALID species please reply on this thread. No need to comment about undescribed species, there are too many for me to keep track of, but I will add those that I have kept myself.

Interesting read. I thought A. abacaxis/wilhelmi had been described. I could very much be wrong though.

I checked Catalog of Fishes and fishbase.org and neither lists this species. I also have access to academic search engines that send me weekly alerts when papers about apistogramma, including description of new species, appear. So to my knowledge this remains a clearly distinct but undescribed species [that as of last Friday is having free swimming fry in one of my tanks :) ]

Ha ha, cool. Congratulations. I looked for a description but couldn't find it so I think I was mistaken anyway.
I used to get alerts for Echinococcus, but, alas, no subscriptions these days.

I have just been adding links for PDFs of species descriptions when they are publicly available. Unfortunately, I can't provide access to journals that are not open access.

There are now links to publicly available species description documents for 81 out of the 94 species on http://biodives.com/apistogramma. If you have Cichlid Atlas 2 that gives you 4 more and there are 5 in Cichliden-Lexikon Teil 3, a German book by Wolfgang Staeck from 2003 that I don't have but just ordered.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
