Hello all,
I recently bought a group of what was sold as apisto uaupesi but is definitely not. No location data was provided but maybe this species lives in the same region, leading to the id mistake? Here are some pictures, sorry they're not the best quality. Pains in the butt. I bought 8 specimens hoping for at least 2 pairs and then planned to sell/re-home any others with some friends. Each picture is a separate individual.

I will not say anything absolute or defintive, but something along the lines of A. regani would be my first instinkt.

I'm curious who the seller was. Those are so distinct the seller should have known better. As for species i couldn't guess i couldn't even swear they were apistogramma.

I did a bit (small bit) of googling and the only cichild i could find near the catch location of uaupesi that has strong vertical stripes was Ivanacara adoketa. The body shape doesn't seem right; though i suppose if these are under an inch anything is possible.

I'm absolutely sure they are Apistogramma, but I doubt you can count on anything concerning what happened before they reached the seller to the OP. They were sold as A. uaupesi, which they are definitely not. But what makes you think they could be from that River of that name when the OP states clearly he has no information about the location?
Using Ockham's razor: Mix-up at the seller is the most likely thing that happened, right after a mix-up at the wholesaler or import/export.

They look a little like female a.Baenchi

Nope. The lack of a lateral spot indicates that the fish are from the regani-lineage. A. baenchi, being in the nijsseni-group and trifasciata-lineage, shows a lateral spot. It's little things like this that help reduce the number of possible species.
And that is why i will forever be a newbie.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
