I've got a beautiful pair of sp 'Mamore' and I'm looking forward to breeding them. I've read that the clutch will have males, having either a red or blue caudal fin. is this true?

Are there any external factors (eg PH, temp) that will determine the colour of the tail? Have the professionals succeeded in breeding all males with a red caudal?

thanks

Hi Chris.

The males from one clutch can have both red or blue caudals, although I think that the "blue" is actually more transparent than blue. It isn't a bright blue.

This is genetically determined and has nothing to do with external factors. I haven´t seen the red caudal has bred true yet, but i have little doubt that the breeders will eventually succeed. Given that red is the colour any fish ought to have these days:wink: Too bad that the goldfish is already invented...

All the best,
Lars
