Some novice questions about Cacatuoides

I am new to the aquarium hobby and to apistrogrammas but I really like the Cacatuoides and I am excited to learn more about them. Could I house a few in a 29 gallon tank with some pencil fish or tetras? If those aren't good fish to pair with them which would you recommend? Also I hoping that with time I will be privileged to see my fish breed but what do you do with the fry if the tank becomes over crowded? Unfortunately I don't have room for a larger tank.

You are on the right path. A 29 gallon is plenty big enough for a small gorup of A. cacaactuoides, and pencils/small tetras are excellent dithers.
