Hi all have sick cory on my hand,( this is same thing that has affected (and killed) 3 aggies from the same tankin the last 3 months). In first image you can see fungus like stuff near head and on dorsal fin (sorta looks like a bite gone bad). Second shot is hard to see on the side is worm/cotton/thread/thing I'm guessing 2-3mm long sticking out from its side (in the pic looks more like a dot) Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what it might be?

Ps from first noticing to death had been less than 24 hours

white cotton wool like growths on fish are usually opportunistic infections of saprologenia(fungus) or columnaris (bacteria)

both these pathogens are opportunistic and will invariably follow some form of poor water, stress or physical damage

look at your water quality
ensure no overcrowding, or bullying fighting
look for other possible stressors in the tank

clearing the cotton wool type lesion is generally very easy if all other thngs are good
in severe case's i may swab neat proprietary broad spectrum treatment directly onto the are with a cotton bud, after lifting the matt of growth off the fish
otherwise simiar just used as per instructions in water

2 grams/litre of salt in the water can help reduce any increase in osmotic stress with open wounds and slow fungal growth

Thanks for the swift response, I'd agree (I've seen bites go bad before) except its the thing on the otherside of the cottonwool I'm concerned about. Its a about 2-3mm long and thread like, whenever I've seen this before (on my three aggie's) it came with the aforementioned cottonwool like wound on another part, I'm thinking a possible external parasite I just cant track down which one. Especially one that shows at the same time as an infected wound, and only singular (eg one wound and one threadlike thing on another part???)

have a ook at pictures of lernea argulus and other fish flukes and ectoparasites .. sometimes just 10 x hand magnification is enough to see detail on these

physically remove it, or use pp, formalin or any generic external parasite treatment on it

other possible though may include things like white grub erupting through skin and secondary issue's
