she's yellow

I picked up a 2nd female A. cacatuoides at the lfs saturday, she's supposed to be the orange strain. At the lfs she looked fairly pale, the day after she got home and settled in, she has turned yellow. I don't know if it makes any difference, because the male is following her around staying within an inch or two of her. I guess if he's interested in her things should be okay shouldn't they. What is the normal body color for a female cacatuoides?

Most apisto females turn bright yellow when they're ready to breed. It happens very quickly. The fact that your male is following her around only reinforces this. It's perfectly natural for the female to turn this color, and if you're looking for babies, it's an excellent sign!

That's great, she does look very nice with the yellow coloring. Do the females each have their own time to breed or does this affect the others?

Since I've added the 2nd female the tank is alot more lively, I can't wait until the lfs gets another one or two.

Putting another female or two in the tank should definitely spice things up a little :!: When females decide to breed is dependant on numerous factors, but I have had them spawn simultaneously before, which is quite an interesting show. Good luck and keep us posted. Neil
