Sexing Borellii?

I have a few borellii but I"m trying to identify the sex. I know that males have dorsal/anal fins that extend as long as the tail but all of my fish are juveniles so they don't have the finnage yet.

What are other indicators for sexing them? Do only females have vertical lines above and below their eyes?

Females and juveniles have similar patterns and are difficult to sex until 1½"/3.5 cm. Above that size the males are readily identified.

How about in terms of behavior? Does "tail-slapping" indicate male vs female? Or do same sex engage in tail slapping as well? Thanks!

Yes in cichlids both sexes can use tail-slapping as a territorial or dominance display, and can use it against fish of either sex.
