My understanding is the the "Peruvian Altum Angelfish" is a commercial name. It is not the true Pterophyllum altum that only occurs in the upper Rio Negro and upper Río Orinoco. Kullander (1986) lists the fish as a population of P. scalare, but I'm sure that the entire genus could use a review.

I see. I understand that they grow bigger than p. scalare and look very good. I'll see them next week. They will be my next "altums", it's the best I can find now :) Thanks

Pretty angels :)

Regarding the name: in the Netherlands what would be called "Peruvian angels", "Peru altum" or similar names (combinations of Peru / angel / altum) usually go by the name Pterophyllum SP Rio Nanay.
A well known breeder of some wild-type angels (at least he's known in the NL) once explained the history of 'altum' in the (commercial/popular) name. According to his statements, 'altum' seems to be the South-American name of 'angel'/'angelfish'. So that makes every Pterophyllum an 'altum'.
