Hello,
I will soon have a pair of Apistogramma Apistogramma kelleri and sp. "Papagei" wild. I wish I know the reproductive parameters of both species. I read that the kelleri, pH 5 and a temperature of 24-25 ° C is ideal. What is conductivity?

I had both the 'true' Papagei and the 'false' Papagei (A. sp. Roca Eterna) breed in my tap water: pH dropped to <6.0; 3°dGH; 2°dKH; ~70µS/cm. Papagei (both) will certainly live in less ideal conditions, and I wouldn't be surprised if they could breed in higher values. TomC, Julio Melgar, and I tried to collect Kelleri outside of Leticia, Colombia (unsuccessful - stream had completely dried earlier in the year). Water values were around pH 5.5 and 35 µS/cm. Again, Kelleri can certainly live in less ideal conditions, and reported to breed at slightly higher values.

Thank you Mike, my Apistogramma sp. Papagei arrives tomorrow morning. The photo of the fish sent by the seller is this:

Note that the female seems to correspond to the Apistogramma sp. Papagai A91 with two lateral spots while this does not seem to be the case for the female sp. Roca eterna. Is there a A-number to the sp. Roca eterna? It is very similar to Apistogramma sp. Pebas A89

Hi,i have been keeping and breeding a wild pair of Kelleri for nearly 2 years now and mine are in tap water ph6.5,temp,76 tds,80ppm with no problems, spawn regularly and produce a pretty even sex ratio. One of my favorite fish.

Roca Eterna entered the hobby in 2008, 3 years after the DATZ Book was published with A-numbers. Newer apistos haven't been given A-numbers. My guess is that you have the true Papagei, but the photo isn't good enough (especially the male) to be absolutely positive. A. sp. Pebas is a separate species from both Papagei and Roca Eterna.
