Hi. Can I get an Otocinclus catfish for my tank? If anyone doesn't know I have a phantom tetra, 1 gray tetra(forgot name but small) 2 bumble bee gobies and a gold barb. I'm getting 3 apistogramma cacautuiodes soon, too.(red) thx!

ottos?

Hello Otto cats are a great alternative to plecos Ime. They will not bother the egg and or fry of fishes and will not kill plants. If you are gonna try and spawn your cacatouides then i would recommend moving your other fishes. I hope this helps..

Anywhere from 3-4 otos in a tank 20gallons and up and they'll do a great job!

Hi,

3-4 are too less. Otocinclus need a swarm.
They are pretty difficult to acclimatize and act very sensitively on stress, therefore they often they die of hunger after a few weeks.
The best way to reduce stress for these fishes is a swarm.

I never would put less than 10 Otos in a tank.

If they are acclimatized, they are easy and can become very old.
But the "great job" do mainly younger specimen, older Otos are lazy ;-)

greetings,
Rolo

hahaha... I've never had problems acclimating them Rolo and didn't know they were a swarming fish?! WOW! I never thought of it like that. Mine usually bully each other over best parts of the anubias once they've found it so I never thought of them even as a swarming/schooling type.. but I can vouch that they do seem a little more less eager (active) once they do get older but what animal does?.. =)
