I've been told by the seller that they are a pair but when i asked her what tank mates i coud get with them she just googled it. Which is fine as i alredy researced the possible tank mates prior buying. I bought them so i can get bread them, therefore they need to be a pair. cant spot any differences between the 2 appistogrammas.

The fish are still small/young, so I'm not 100% positive about their sex. But from what I see you have a pair (2) of males of A. panduro. Females typically have a vertical band across the middle of the body or more common only a black patch on the lower half of the body around the vent. Compare with photos in books/web sites.

The second fish looks more like A. nijsseni to me. The first one might be an odd looking panduro or nijsseni or perhaps a hybrid.

The fish in the last photo is a female. As for the species, my guess would be nijsseni (with a bit odd looking caudal peduncle blotch).

My female nij looks nothing like that fish. Hum. I'm not an expert and i realize you have a lot more experience but it really doesn't look much like my female nij.

nijsseni females can be very variable with regard to their black markings.

Ok. Yea mine will change colouring from time to time but most of the time she looks like this. The head on the above fish just looks weird but maybe it is the angle ?
