Hi,

Just wanted to share my first A sp. abacaxis fry! About 10-20 tails. Don´t know is that a proper batch size for abacaxis?

Expect none to survive as there are some Hemigrammus bleheri (going into a bigger tank) in the tank as well as the male and another female.

Are abacaxis good parents?

My female was a good mother, but the only other fish in the 20L tank were another female and the male. Most of my spawns ended up with 25 - 30 fry after a month.

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my wild baenschi who decided to spawn in quarantine.
There was another female but she´s gone missing. A casualty perhaps?

Hi,

Is it possible that my Baenschi female killed the male after a new batch of eggs?
I found him dead yesterday. Prior to that, good colors, moving and eating normally.

How do apistos manage to kill each other? There was no visible damage on the fish.

Should I try to move the old fry? Female is chasing them actively.

No missing scales or shredded fins? Maybe she didn't kill him, unless he died from exhaustion and stress from being chased. But I would expect some signs of external damage if she was the cause.

Hi,

She did chase him quite a bit but nothing to bad in my opinion.
I tried to check for signs of damage but didn´t see anything.

They can definitely chase each other to death, I've had it happen more than once.
Nice looking Salvinia raft.

Hi,

Just wanted to share my camouflaged lift tube nozzle.
Never intented that to happen, that moss just took it´s place.

Hi,

Anyone have any idea what kind of algae is this? Mainly appears at the output of matten cornerfilter.
Really easy to remove, just suck it out. Nannostomus Marginatus likes to nibble at it.

It's not an algae, it's bacteria, just like cyanos and black beard. Basically feral biofilm. I have that too in some spots but that is really a long growth you got there. Like it.

Any idea what might be the cause? It started to appear when I switched to LED lights. There´s also quite a bit of mulm inside my mattenfilter.

Thank you so much. That´s quite peculiar. Might give my filter a thorough cleaning and suck out the mulm from the bottom.
Should have thought about bacteria because of the growth rate. Basically doubling every day.

Hi all,

Any ideas what this is? It comes and goes but I´ve been struggling with it at least a year.
It´s really effective at preventing plant growth... Pistias are really struggling and Salvinia is dying.

In the upper regions maybe some algae in the mix, but otherwise symbiotic bacteria that help the plant absorbing nutrients. Usually, because I got this in the rootwork of Pothos and Monstera.

I'm guessing that it is a mucilage forming cyanobacteria.

I'm guessing that they are both symptoms of a wider nutrient issue, rather than cause and effect.

cheers Darrel
