I have purchased. I believe ti to be an A. Borelli although the person at the LFS said it was a Borleyi. It has turquoise cheeks, a black line down the middle of each side and black lines through the eyes. His/Her tank mates are 2 juvenile Discus, 2 Ottos, 4 Harlequin Rasp, 5 juvenile Cardinal Tetras. 2 Hillstream Loaches and 1 juvenile Red Whiptail Cat. Yesterday he/she seemed to chase my Discus around and I am wondering, should they not be tank mates? And is this species of Apisto is ok being alone or does he/she need more A. Borelli company. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I like the looks of the fish and would love to keep it. I do have another 10g tank that I can move him/her to if you think that would be best.

Just so you know he.she looks just like this.

The picture you linked to looks like an Apistogramma 'Steel Blue' - a probable commercially produced hybrid often sold as A.borelli. If you're keeping discus then you should have enough space in the tank for the shoal of discus to get out of the way of the apistos though they might chase them if they get too near the area they want as a territory.

Sorry to say that he isnt A.borellii. Still a nice fish though and should be kept in much the same way.
The question of discus being good tank mates depends on if you are talking to discus people of apisto people.
Discus people insist that discus could never be threatened by a little fish like an apisto.

It pays to keep an eye on them as I have seen pairs of dwarfs living nicely with discus and other pairs being quite nasty.

Sorry

Yeah Darrell,

Sorry about that.

I posted under the Borelli because I thought he was. but everyone say he isn't. I did not know there was a beginners section or I would have just posted here.

The last reply I made here are two pictures of my actual fish. The other pictures are what I thought he kind of looked like.

Once again sorry for the double thread

A. Panduro

Now that I know I own a Steel Blue (Thank you Darrell) can anyone tell me if it would be ok to keep a pair of A. Panduro in the same 37g tank along with the other fish I have mention?

Thanks,

Yes, but if the panduro decide to bond and breed, they might wreak havoc on the other members of your community tank. Even so, it is unlikely that many fry will survive with so many 'fry predators' in the tank.
