I see species of the pertensis-complex, agassizii(?)-complex, and A. cf. regani. Tell us which photos are of the same fish and larger photos would help, too.

1,2 and 8 are the same, Agassizii?
3,11 are the same fish but i am guessing 10,12 are mature specimens. 10 and 12 are not mine but caught at the same stream a few months earlier.
4 i am guessing is related to cf pertensis.
5 is probably the same as 1,2,8
I have no clue what 6 and 9 are, but they are the same fish. This is probably silly but i always think of abacaxi (wilhemi) when i see it even though their colors arent very close.

My guess is that it is a form of A. cf. pulchra. You don't say where you collected them. I do know that there is a pulchra-like fish found in the Rio Uatumã, east of Manaus.

I think that you're right, they are the same - A. regani.

I agree with you - A. cf. pertensis.

Yes, it probably is the same.

Photos 6 & 9 look like the same photo! The fish is probably the same as in 1, 2, & 8 - A. cf. pulchra.

It would be helpful, in the future, if you (and others) could send photos at least 600 pixels wide. Your Nikon Coolpix L100 is a decent little camera. At 10 mp it should be able to produce photos larger than you sent. The photos out of the camera actually produced an image 3648 x 2736 pixels. (Aren't EXIF tools wonderful?:)) It would also be very useful to know where the fish were collected; if not the exact location, at least the river.

Hope this helps.

I collected it in Puraquequara about 20 miles upriver from manaus RIGHT at the meeting of the waters. I caught the pulchra in a clearwater stream the locals had a name for it but its too small to be on a map.

I think that you're right, they are the same - A. regani.

Thank you! there is another fish species!

I agree with you - A. cf. pertensis.

Yes, it probably is the same.

You are correct. My bad.
The fish is probably the same as in 1, 2, & 8 - A. cf. pulchra.
The main differance i saw was a broader horizontal line. And a few other minor differances.

I deffinately cand do that. I resize pictures this size so that i can use them on alm ost any forum CRC for example can take pictures more then 200 kb. I do have all of the pictures on the hardrive that are 2 megabites.
If this helps the stream was called Myaná.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for your informative post it helped a ton.
Btw i just got a new 10 gallon long exclusively for some juvi apistos so that should help with elbow room.
I was planning on freeing up a 4 foot tank for apistos too but a disaster with the pond (its a long story) has put that plan on hold for at least 3 months.

Will wild apistos take to Freeze dried bloodworms easily?
Merry christmas!

A few more pictures. They should be larger.
The Pulchra wasn't choking, but it had eatin to much food:cool:
I am currently battling with a ph problem in my new tank but i will probably move the rupununi trio into it. Then it would be a tankful of fish endemic to Puraquequara.

I'm not really sure. It looks like the fish is developing a submarginal band on the caudal fin. This feature is more typical of agassizii-complex species than those in the pulchra-complex. Give them a few months and see if they develop a lance/spade-shaped tail.

New apistos! Rupuni look alikes?

A few days ago i was able to collect fish from the Igarape do leao (Lions creek) this is a stream that stretches for many miles along one of the few highways out of manaus. I had caught A. rupununi 6 kilometers outside of Manaus (3 miles) this time i was fishing in the Igarape do leao about 30 kilometers away. I caught a pike cichlid, copella sp. and some beautiful pencilfish in this same stream. The apistos here are very similar to the A rupununi 30 km away but have slight barely noticeable differances
No1 Color. Both males and females have more of a yellow tinge throughout the body.
No2 Body shape. To me I find them much more attractive then the rupununi, i cant quite put my finger on it but they are not as deep bodied, and have more color.
No3 Markings. The caudal peduncle has a more pronounced black spot and the marking on the back is much larger.
Basically i dont know if it is rupununi or not one day i will think one thing the next the other. I am beginning to think it is a variant that isnt yet a divided species. Thank you!

Your new steindachneri-group fish looks a lot like A. hippolytae; larger flank patch, broader cheak stripe that shrinks to an ocellus on the lower part.
