i have a pair of A. baenschi a few days ago but the male does not seem normal. i put them into a 10 gallon tank that was running for a few weeks with an agassisii. the agassisii was healthy and fine. i took out the agassisii and put in the pair of baenschi. i dont think it was the tank but maybe the shipping stress was cause. the water parameters are about: pH=7, water=soft, temp=77F, amonia=0. the female is out and swims around happily.
the male behavior/symptoms:
-constant hiding
-it flickers and seem agitated when swimming but dont see much scratching on rocks or wood
-no white spots, at least not yet
-it will also go up the surface corner and stay there
-the gills seem redish and maybe poofy or swollen
-the tail fin is usually tucked and cramped to gether (not spread like normal unless this is normal behavior for a male)
-it doesnt seem to want to eat compared to the female who's eating like crazy. it is skinny with sunken stomach. when eating, it will only eat small peaces of blood worm and not much of it. it also keeps spitting it out most of the time
what do you guys think it is? what should i treat it with and how should i treat it? i've had lots of fishes in my life time but is acctually my first time with a sick/abnormal one, not sure what to do, help! thanks in advance.
