Which species are you interested in? There are a few variations to care and temperament among the species. But on the whole they are very much like Pelvicachromis-pair bonding, cave spawning, potentially shy. A school of small to medium tetras, barbs, or killis (lamp eye) over head go a long way to keeping the Nanochromis happy and healthy. Avoid keeping other cichlids in a tank with Nanochromis that would compete for similiar habitat space-like Pelvicachromis. Other then defending their territory Nanochromis are relatively peaceful fish. Think typical pair bonding cichlid rules-provide plenty of space per fish, break up line of site, keep one pair per tank unless it's a larger tank.
