I have a pair of nannacara anomala that have spawned multiple times for me. I have moved them to several different tanks with hard to soft water. They have had a variety of other fish in the tank with them including dithers, other dwarf cichlids, and no other fish. I have kept the male with the female after spawning and I have removed the male after spawning. Despite laying eggs many times, I have never seen wrigglers or free swimmers.
Some of the eggs have turned white which I assume is fungus. I assume the female has eaten the eggs as she is attentive and sometimes there have been no other fish in the tank with her and her eggs. I have bred other dwarf cichlids in the same tanks and even at the same time (with dividers keeping the cichlids separate) with good results.
So short of removing the eggs and hatching them artificially, does anyone have any advice on how I can get the eggs to hatch?
Some tank info: these tanks are planted and well established. No ammonia or nitrite, minimal nitrate. Temp is 76 to 80 F. TDS ranges from 600 to 100 depending on the tank they are in.
