To anyone who's interested, I have finally spawned the big one, the hardest fish to spawn I have ever worked with, I have about 80 Nanacara adoketa fry swimming around loose! This fish is a tough one to deal with let me tell you! Out of 12 fish that I received I ended up with two that could stand each others company and they act like angels, come up to the glass and all! Here are some pics: http://216.136.200.194/auction/Jan/20031155346467854800929.jpg

Congrats Dave! We both know about some of those other stinkin' little Nannacara sp. They can be real thugs  And I have heard that adoketa could be a leader of their gang. I'll have to get some fry from you when they grow up. I haven't done anything Masochistic lately!!

Well, after almost 2 weeks of cleaning different things, they finally tried it:

The eggs don't look to good, if they are comparable to other Nannacara species. I'll let them keep this batch and see what happens. I might need to lower the pH a bit yet, tested out this morning when I found the eggs at 6.0 Everything I've read points to low to mid 5's at best. More bulletins as events warrant :)

I noticed she was getting lighter also. She was very dark, much like the pictures in Romer's book, while they were choosing a site. After they spawned, she got lighter by the minute. Maybe a sign that she knew things weren't going to work out. What was left of the eggs became lunch yesterday. I'll keep bringing the pH down and see if they have any better luck the next time...

How are yours doing? How are the fry compared to the other Nannacara? I always thought N. anomala fry were rather tinyto start, but they grew pretty fast for me from there.

These are slow growers! I think you are headed in the right direction with the Ph. My female is pretty much dark all the time now, but hey you know as well as I do that these fish ( SWDC's) are individuals and stuff like that varies from fish to fish. You keep at it and you will be successfull. They are nt that small, but wow are they slow growers
