N. beckfordi and a. cacatuoides

I have a pair of a. cacatuoides housed with 10 Beckfordi pencils. Will the pencils eat the cacatuoides fry?

Hello,

IIRC, N. marginatus are not known as fry eaters, though I doubt that they would pass up a free meal if it ever came their way. I would think that it would N. beckfordi would have a similar behavior, but more knowledgeable people would likely be able to give you more info.

N. beckfordi are pretty much the only Nannostomus species known to at least occasionaly predate on cichlid fry.

I've personally seen Beckfordi try and take small enough fry in my tanks. They are opportunistic though, rather than aggressively/systematically hunting Apistogramma fry. It's only when fry swim too close, and the mother doesn't notice, that they will try and take the fry. The fry are generally quick to evade if they realise what's happening in time.

my a. cacatuoides pair our housed in a 20 gallon long with 10 n. beckfordi. I have 35 juvenile from the last spawn. I did not witness predation by the beckfordi in this hatch or the previous hatch.
