i keep this pair of mendezi in a 30cm*30cm*30cm tank, with some tetras. i dont think they look very nice.
thanks for sharing your point of view. the female also has slightly curve lateral band. the upper band and the lower meet at the tail, which means not paralleled. i guess the male and the female are siblings...I don't see any deformed scales on the body. My guess is that it is just variation. Not every specimen of a species shows the features of the 'ideal' form. I doubt that it is a genetic defect. Try breeding your A. mendezi and see what the offspring look like.
