My triple red male and my female gold apsito just had babies. :D Hope they survive. I dont think my Discus will be a problem, worried about my gold tetras, should I take them out? My Mbu puffer seem to be safe as well.

Dont worry Randall, My Mbu Puffer been in there since day 1, 1 1/2 YEARS now. My tank is 135g Plant tank. I am more worried about my Gold tetras and mt double red Agazzizi than my puffer, he's hand fed shrimp and beef heart every day and thats all he knows. I want to know if I should move my tetras or move my babies and the mother.Believe me my puffer is safe this is my second one, the first one I kept for about 4-5 years with my Breeding discus. I have about 20 years exp. of fish keeping. And you know what if I have success, why Not He's my fav. :D

Tetras with Fry

Dear Boo,

It's nice to hear someone speak so affectionately about their fish.

As for your tetras, given the size of your tank, I really think it's a judgement call. It's true that some tetras make fairly good fry preditors, but not all of them. If you feel confident that your tank is large enough and well planted enough to offer your Apisto fry suitable protection, then leave the tetras in. If not, then perhaps it would be best to remove them, as much for your peace of mind as for the benefit of the fry.

I don't think it would be a good idea to disturb mother, father and fry. Let them do their thing.

Congats on your successful spawn. Enjoy!

All the best,

Randall Kohn

Boo,
Congrats on your spawn! I think that there is more of a general worry about fry loss in your tank than a specific. Even in a 135g. with numerous other general species, there is a higher chance of predation than in a smaller tank with only the parents. The problem here probably won't happen right away, but more likely will occur down the road a bit. Usually the parents will have no trouble keeping tabs on the fry for a couple of weeks because they will stay together for the most part. Later they will start seperating and the parents will not be able to give them appropriate attention. It is likely that you will loose fry. Maybe not all, but enough for you too think about getting them out of there early than later when they are easy to catch IMO. It depends if you want to watch an interesting process with your pair or get as many fry as possible.
Good luck,
Neil

Make sure you get a night light for the tank, so mom can keep all the fry protected at night. It will increase their chance of survival greatly.
