Hey there

I have had Apistogramma Cacatuoides for a few years now, every few months producing a few fry, which my LFS gladly takes. Now I have one pair (one male from my first ever spawn and one female I bought a few months back), but for half a year I have had no luck at all. There have been loads of promising signs, such a the female disappearing into her bogwood for a few days etc, but still no fry. Right now they are in a 2" x 1.5" x 1" tank, well planted with two zebra danios

Any ideas why these guys have stopped and are there any ways to get them back on track?

perhaps give them a lot of live foods
a seperation from each other
and /or a large change in water habitat to see if any of those or a combination is enough to get them breeding again

i have had similar occur and do not know why it happens

well my big guy is currently around 2" ish (and is a pretty big fella), whilst the female is probably at her maximum size. I think in the next month or so I will feed exclusivly live foods, and possibly split them for a bit... perhaps add a new female to see if the female is not the infertile one

Right now my pH is 6.8, the average temp is 25'C and my water is pretty soft. Any thing I can do to make it better for them? Oh and would adding a new female long term be a good idea?

urgh and hope she doesn't eat the eggs, my Rams are bad enough!

dang i think he may be infertile.

today my female is in full breeding colours and has completely cleaned out her bogwood cave and its ceeiling (i can see all she is doing through a small gap). But whenever she comes out and starts tailflicking at my male, he just swims off or eats food :/

definalty infertile or just lethargic?
