First let me say I hate to mix lakes, and i dont beleive i am even considering mixing fish from different hemispheres, but i am.

I have an empty 40g. I am thinking of setting it up as a SA tank, with a few plants. maybe even some flourite for the substrate.

my main question is if i can mix Steatocranus casuarius, Apistos, and geophagus brasilines or Geophagus sp. "Tapajós - Orange Head".

thanks

I personally think that Steatocranus cassuarius is a bit big and aggressive for most apistos. I always kept my Buffalo Heads by themselves in a separate 20L where they bred continuously.

Hello Doggin,

Mike and I are on the same page here. Steatocranus casuarius do get fairly large and might prove more than your Apistogramma spp. can handle. Geophagus brasiliensis and G. sp. "Tapajos-Red Head" grow HUGE and can use Apistogramma spp. as toothpicks! I wouldn't house either of them in anything less than 75 gallons.

Good luck!

All the best,

Randall Kohn
