Has anyone ever done (or seen) a simple matrix type chart, showing:

compatibility with other species
how many per tank
compatibility with same species
shy or bold
ETC.

So some of us newbies don't do something stupid!

I have not seen anything of any depth done. I think that is one of the reasons that a forum like this is working so well. It is one of the only ways to get answers to specific questions about Dwarfs.
This would be an excellent project and extremely useful. However, it would need to be headed by someone with alot of motivation to get tons of species data, as well as the experience to know what has worked and what has not.
The problem is that many of these fish respond differently in different situations. Heck, many respond differently in the same situation. All 4 of the categories that you listed have numerous possible answers for each senerio. There are generalities, but specific situations would still have to be tried to be sure that they work well. And, even then, you could not be sure that it would not change the next time around.
