The only way to lower conductivity that I know about is by removing the ions (impractical) or diluting the water with water having a lower (preferably no) mineral hardness.

It is the case that they use sodium ions to soften the water. I guess I will have to use RO or rain water.

What affect does the high conductivity have on the apisto's, is it a health issue or they just won't breed?

Thanks

Usually the eggs don't hatch & the breeders are less interested in breeding (probably from stress). In blackwater species it seems to lower their resistance to parsites & diseases, but this isn't proven.

I have used RO, It had immediate effect, my Apistogramma Macmasteri female has taken up shelter under my coconut shell and has become extreamly aggressive, Lost a bit weight and become very strongly coloured. I can only assume she has laid eggs... Great :)
