Can anyone tell me what this fish is? I have been told it was a Liberia red/gold. Sorry for the blurry picture as it was a bit difficult taking a picture of this guy.

Hello Chromis,

Your photo depicts Pelvicachromis humilis "Dinkaya." The form is commonly sold in the US as "Liberia Red" for some reason, but it's not from Liberia and it's not red.

Nice fish.

Good luck!

It looks like the P. Humilis "Liberia Red" I obtained last month from a reputable importer. The only pictures that if have seen of the "Dinkaya"form are on the Apistogramma.com web site. They look different from the "Liberia Red" form in that the Dinkaya seem to have a lot of pale blue in their fins and not much red at all.

Pelvicachromis humilis

Hello all,

Pelvicachromis humilis "Liberia Red" has not been exported in many years. The form known in the US hobby as "Liberia Red" (including the "Liberia Red" photos on apistogramma.com) is actually P. humilis "Dinkaya."

All the best,

Randall Kohn
