Hemichromis sp. "Guinea I"

Hi Chugger,

There are some nice photos in Linke & Staeck's and Lamboj's books. Alternatively, why don't you just get the fish yourself and take photos for the rest of us!

Good luck!

The images (pg 119) in the Lamboj book are of mature fish. The top picture shows a nonbreeding fish and the middle image show a fish with eggs. Not a lot of difference.

I have had this species, and I currently have the 'Guinea 2'. Of the two species, the images of 'Guinea 2' in Lamboj's book do not do the fish justice. It is a MUCH prettier fish than 'Guinea 1'. I will post a picture in this thread soon.

Hi Chugger,

The photos in both Linke & Staeck and Lamboj depict mature specimens. The coloration exhibited depends on how the camera catches the subject fish at the instant the photo is taken. Yes, in the hobby, Hemichromis sp. "Guinea I" is also known as H. sp. "Kolente/Kolente River."

Ted,

Yours is the first photo I've seen that does H. sp. "Guinea II" justice! I'm going to have to steal it. ;-)

Ted,

Bring your camera over and try to get a few pics of my pair! Your's are just pups. I'll even try to get some of the tanins out of the water to make things easier.

Chugger,

Mine are wild stock from the Kolente River system, no red belly. They look just like Ted's, just older and larger. They have even gone through prespawning motions and still no red, just an incredible bronze with an orange trim.
