i feed my apisto's mostly frozen food and pellet food with an ocasional squird of BBS and they are doing just fine. So IMO it's ok to have them on such a diet
My fish (mostly Pelvicachromis) get mostly frozen bloodworm, a little frozen brine, live black worms (twice a week), bbs daily, and a flake mix of earthworm flake, spiruline flake and veggie flake.
Since I breed a lot of killies, I always have a lot of live foods around like BBS, blackworms, white worms, vinegar eels, microworms and grindal worms. I also feed beefheart, I buy a beefheart and freeze it and when I am ready to feed it I grate a few slices into the tank. So they mostly get whatever I am feeding most of my other tanks. I do feed them flake food when I am in a hurry, but most killies will not eat anything but live foods. If they do eat flake they won't lay any eggs.
Hi all,
I read on somebody's apisto page that they don't recommend bloodworms for apistos. Something about a casing and digestion problems. Anybody subscribe to this notion? I've been feeding frozen bloodworms but have held off recently after I read that.
My apisto's have been eating frozen bloodworms for over a year, no ill effects here. They don't get a steady diet of them though, just a couple times a week. They eat mostly live foods.
