This announcement didn't survive the recent server crash, so here it is again.

Scientific descriptions of

Apistogramma acrensis Staeck 2003 (A. sp. "Rio Acre")
A. inornata Staeck 2003 (A. sp. "Rio Maniapure"/"Maniapure")
A. similis Staeck 2003
A. tucurui Staeck 2003
A. velifera Staeck 2003 (A. sp. "Segelflossen"/"Puerto Ayacucho"/"Vierstreifen")

Cichliden-Lexikon, Teil 3, Sudamerikanische Zwergbuntbarsche. Dahne Verlag, 2003. 219 S. ISBN 3-935175-13-2.

The book, in German only, can be ordered through Harro Hieronemus at [email protected] for a slightly better price than that of some sellers, inclusive of shipping.

Thank you.

Thanks very much for the info, Randall.
A. sp. "Tucurui" kept it's temp designation root-name and was just classified to A. tucurui.
Do you know anything about similis. Does the book give any clue as to what this species was before classification?
Thanks,
Neil

Apistogramma similis

Hello All,

Sorry, I don't have any photos of the newly described forms, but Dr. Staeck's new book sure does.

Neil, I don't think Apistogramma similis was known by any name prior to its description--none that I'm aware of anyway.

The type location is cited as the Bolivian province Beni and the Laguna La Brava in the Rio Yata system. It's a soft water fish (pH 6.6, dH <1, us/cm <10) of the commbrae-complex.

Thanks!

Rolo
