Thanks Tom,

Even if it's through your images, it's nice to see the home of these wonderful Apisto's. Quite taken with the Copeina sp. as well.

Hope you're looking after Mark :biggrin:

And whats all the grinning about.... Tom looking after a well seasoned and cultured traveller like myself!!!! How dare you.... You know ive been to Wales.

Its really is heaven over here chaps...
The thrill of netting these beautiful fish far exceeds the effort required to get to these remote locations. Im sure Mike knows what i mean but just walking the 1/2 mile or so to the Schwarzbrust habitat through thick rainforest during this first week almost finished me off in this heat and humidity.
You get one hell of a lift when you reach it though and catch Apistogramma first cast....

We have some wonderful fish already from our first little day long outing so heaven knows what we might find from our next 2 trips. One being an exceedingly long 9 day trip to Rio Tapiche.
Very exciting indeed.

Mark...

Mark, it gets easier as the month goes on. I always thought that the Amazon was flat! Wrong!! Last year we didn't find Schwarzbrust/Black-breast at the pool in Tom's photo, just some beautifully colorful Schwarzkinn/Black-chin.

Morning, afternoon, evening (take your pick) Mark,

You know, it seems easier to get hold of you just now compared to when you are at home!!!! I like the comparison of Wales to the Amazon, both wet and full of hills, just one is a little bit warmer!!

Keep taking pictures (and catching fish), especially biotope images (any underwater ones to come??), just makes it all the more real.

Take care and get posting on this thread!!

Well i havnt got elderly parents to look after with no internet connection when im in the Amazon and believe it or not i get a better mobile signal in the middle of the Amazon than i do in the middle of Shropshire, it takes the p--- really as there are mobile masts everywhere over here and its difficult to spot one where i live. When travelling down the Amazon and Napo they just spring up out of nowhere in what looks like thick jungle habitat.

I will leave the posting to Tom as he does a better job than i do. What i will say is that we are just this afternoon back from a 2 day trip to Mazan and then 1 hour up the Napo. Walked for 6 hours in very difficult conditions to collect what we think are 3 very special and possibly new species/forms.
A "Pebas" type fish from the Mazan/Napo area is very exciting....Should they be there????
Im sure Tom will reveal all....

Cheers Mark... I certainly am, despite the hard work. To visit Iquitos is an experience in itself and the fish/habitats are an added bonus.

See ya later,
Mark....

Hi Tom... another exciting report. It's extraordinary how those little fish can tolerate a quite large temperature amplitude. From 24ºC (day temperature in the shadow) to 33ºC (when exposed to direct sunlight) especially that 33ºC, I think, will lower substantially at night.

Maybe it wouldn't such a bad idea, regarding the simulation of their habitat, to put the aquarium heaters on a timer and that way, also, save some energy :-D.

We'll be waiting for further reports, the best of luck for you and Mark in this amazing journey.
