Although I've been registered here for quite a while and I've been amazed by Apistogramma sp. for even longer, I never really kept them until this past August where I purchased my first pair of Apistogramma elizabethae 'Super Red'. I know I took a huge risk by purchasing such a difficult species but with a lot of good fortune and a little bit of good husbandry information (thanks Mike and Peter) I've managed to keep them alive and well.

Here's a couple of pictures (excuse the horrible photography).

The only problem now is that the male is pursuing the female but she is not interested. Will she eventually let in or not? Also, do they need a cave to spawn (will it increase their chances)?

Congrats

Congratulations on getting these beautiful fish! Nothing wrong with going straight for the difficult, my first experience with dwarf cichlids were two pairs of wild caught blue rams. They did very well for me: spawning on a regular basis, lived long and healthy lives (never even a sign of disease!). I wish you the same luck with these :)

sorry, I'm not even qualified to type their name!!! Can't offer advice but congratulations...NICE FISH!!!

I'm sure someone will be along to help you, yes, caves and plants!!

Thanks, but if I can keep them then most other people can too. All it takes is good water and some patience (they take time to adjust). Honestly, the RO unit was the best investment I made recently.

Have patience they are still a little young--where the heck did you get them???

The male seems mature? He is definitely interested, but the female keeps playing hard to get. I did see interesting behavior yesterday, she was flaring at him and then rubbed against him - she did it a few times.

I got them from Atlantis Tropical Fish.

Thank you for the encouragement.
