I purchased 2 females under the name Juruensis which I was fairly confident at the time were allpahuayo but now they have developed the lines on there side that none of my other allpahuayo females have ever shown, they do however have a distinct dot sometimes.
Any help with a ID I know it's a long shot.

Hi all,
With the usual disclaimer, but I wonder if they are female Apistogramma cacatuoides?

cheers Darrel

On first glance, it looked like a cacatuoides female to me...

In terms of A. juruensis, there is alot of confusion amongst collectors about A. sp. Jurua (Cruziero) and A. juruensis. The females could be one of the two if they truly came from the Rio Jurua.

I'll try to get another pic when I get home.
They have been in a tank with young male allpahuayo, I thought one of them was guarding eggs is this possible? Are they close enough related?

Yes, that's the throat pattern of A. cacatuoides. A. alpahuayo have more of a stripe on the throat. Yes, again, A. cacatuoides and A. alpahuayo are closely related (same species-group) - close enough to try to reproduce if there is no member of their species available.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
