Female changed sex!!???

I think the correct term for this phenomena is Sequential Hermaphroditism. Several google search results list fish as being one of a few different types of animals that this occurs in.

This is slightly different, the old female fish doesn't actually change sex, it just develops some male characteristics.

There is some debate whether Crenicara spp. can change sex, but I'm not sure what the conclusion was. I think marine Clownfish, Damselfish and Wrasses are reasonably closely related to Cichlids in evolutionary terms. From <"Functional hermaphroditism in teleosts">

That's assuming it isn't a true transition and that the spawn he's been documenting is from the other male, but they've been separated for a while now, haven't they?
