Dwarf Cichlid breeders in Hawaii?

Hi all,

I am looking for breeders of dwarf cichlids here in Hawaii. The two lfs on the island I live on (Kauai) hardly carry any other cichlids besides angelfish or oscars. I did bring three young A. cacatuoides back from my last trip to the island of Oahu (that was all that the lfs had left). I also bought three Apistogramma sp. from another lfs there (they were being sold as A. cacatuoides), but I am pretty sure that is not what they are.

If anyone knows any dwarf cichlid (especially Apistos) breeders in Hawaii, could you contact them or get me their contact info? Thanks much!!!

Aloha,
Sam

Moi_Eater,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Mike has some nice fish. Alot more than Apistogramma species. He would be the one I would check with also!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I emailed Mike last week, but he hasn't responded yet. Hopefully he does because I would really like to find someone in the islands to purchase fish from and maybe trade fish with later on.

That would be a lot easier than having to get an import permit for every shipment from the mainland. It costs $5 and you have to wait a couple of weeks to get the one-time shipment permit, or it costs $50 to get the multi-shipment permit.(As many shipments as you want for a year from the person/location on the permit.)

I want to obtain some of the A. cacatuoides "Yellow/Gold" to breed. After I get comfortable breeding some of the easier species then I can move on to the more difficult ones. I want to get some of my friends that raise fish here to get into dwarf cichlids! I know they would be interested once they find out how many different species there are to choose from, there is bound to be one that catches each person's eye. The only problem is getting some of them to be easily obtainable.

Well, thanks for listening to me as I rambled on...

Aloha,
Sam
