Hi guys.

I have bought a pair of apistogramma agassizii in November. Beginning January I started to noticed the female have some white patches around her mouth as well as on her tail.
I tried treating her with salt which seemed to help slightly for the patches around the mouth however it did not cure it completely. I then tried treating her with seachem paragaurd which says it helps to eradicate ectoparasites, fungal, bacterial and viral lesions. This didn't seem to work at all.

She saams to have a good appetite but struggles to eat. Otherwise behaviour is normal. Any help is appreciated.

What are your water parameters and what kind of substrate does the aquarium have? Whatever these are I suggest you start making 15-20% water changes every day or two and see if this helps.

I'm using jbl substrate. See photo. I have been doing regular water changes as well.

Since I do not use JBL substrate nor Tetra test products the photo are not useful to me. Can you describe the size and angularity of the substrate and numerical values of the test strips for us please?

The strip tests are null and void anyway, I can see the water from the KH and pH test fields mixing. Use kitchen towels to take off water from the teststrips immediately after submerging into the water. Try to take off the water from the side, not from the top. Then please just post your readings, as after the 60sec wait you only have a small window of time until the test fields darken too far from the actual reading.

The substrate is all but Apistofriendly. It's a specialised plant substrate, that if at all should be used under a cap of sand when keeping Apistogramma. It also adds too many nutrients to the water column, which can lead to an imbalance in the nitrogen cycle.
