Do various Apisto species require individual water perameters? I am trying to keep a few species in the same water (Ph 6.1) and just assumed it would be suitable for all?
No it varies. A few Apisto species like cacatuoides & borellii prefer it a little closer to neutral, but there are some Apisto species that need pH even below 5 and with almost zero hardness. My viejita tank is between 5.0 and 5.5 pH. But 6.5 should be good for most. I've read some posts on this forum, that suggest that pH is not so important with some tank raised specimens.
Most apistos tolerate slightly soft and acidic water as a general condition for husbandry, but for reproduction, the entire spectrum of water values may come into the picture. One should learn as much about the specifics of each species and then give them the best water conditions possible for that species' requirements if you are to be truely successful with long-term care and breeding of any species.

PS, There is a post by a fellow Aussie looking for others from "OZ" in the General Dwarf Cichlid forum.
