Clearwater Apistogramma In Blackwater

In order to produce the water conditions necessary to breed wild Apistogramma I have to filter my tap water through peat. This produces blackwater that can be rather dark depending how fresh the peat is.

My question is how do wild clearwater apistogramma do in this blackwater? Does it affect their health in anyway or will they be happy and breed just the same?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi all,
No it will be absolutely fine, if you got to really extreme black water conditions A. cactuoides won't be happy, but that is about it.

About the only difference between true blackwater and clearwater (besides color) is the extreme acidity of blackwater - typically below pH 5. Is your pH that low?
