clean aquarium glass

hi what do you use to clean you aquarium outside glass? i have very old aquariums 20 to 30 years old with time they form white water lines i tried using glass cleaner with a blade using water and scurbbing (i dont want strong soap, dont want it running into the lower aquariums) thanks

You are seeing carbonate build-up from water seeping between the glass and frame. Usually a strong vinegar solution will clean it off. If not, get something stronger, like HCl. Just don't let it get in the water! There are some commercially sold products that do the same thing. The problem with old tanks is that, over time, this build-up can etch the glass. When this happen, you have to live with it. I know; most of my tanks are the same age and show etches and internal scratches. As long as they hold water, I just live with it.
