Can anyone help sexing my apistogramma please?

Hi I’m new to keeping apistogramma and I have been told they are macmasteri? Could anyone please let me know what sex they are? Someone said that they might be two females.. if they are the same sex can they live peacefully together? Many thanks

I believe the first image is a male and the second a female. So you have a pair.

Wow that’s great! They seem to get along fine but the male one keeps flaring up when he’s near the other! Maybe a bit of chemistry?

Sounds like it. If she gets in the mood she will start to flare back and show her side and belly to the male while shaking. She will also get more yellow, especially after she comes out with fry. Good luck, they are fascinating to watch.

Personally, I can't be certain of the sexes based on these (sorry but) rather poor photos. I will say that the fish in the second photo shows a fish with a rather long and pointed dorsal fin - indicative of a male. I can't see the tip on the other fish. How large are the fish?

I would say it’s about 5cm long at the most..sorry about the quality of the photo I’ll try and get a clearer pic.. it wouldn’t stay still!

IMO they are both females, at least the first one is clearly a female, i've doubts about the second one
