i just aquired a pair of 1 inch Cacatuoides. I'm now wondering if i should be concerned about my water which is at 7.5 with 8* hardness. i dont intend to breed the apistos but do intend to keep them healthy.

im not sure if throwing a peice of drift wood in the tank is needed or affect the water in ph and hardness. any suggestions?

mikewang,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

A. cacatuoides is truely one of the best apistos to handle harder, more alkaline water conditions. There is even a chance for reproduction in those conditions (albeit with less favorable results). I think that the most important thing is the cleanliness of the water, especially in harder water. Make sure to stick with a liberal and regular water-change schedule and things should be OK.

Driftwood is unlikely to make much of a change, but should look nice and give the fish some security.
