Cacatuoides Pair Says Cave and Sand Not Needed...

My new pair couldn't wait for their new home to be ready so, they spawned in their quarantine tank, on the bare bottom...no caves and no sandy substrate. Both the male and female are fanning the eggs but the male spends more time "guarding". Time will tell if the spawn is successful and if I can get pictures uploaded!

You make it sound like the stuff is absolutely necessary for spawning. The reason most of us here name these things as important is because we are usually talking of permanent or long term breeding tanks. I know many fish reproduce in quarantine, including domestic A. cacatuoides. That doesn't mean it's a sign it will always work in these conditions, it doesn't mean it will never work either.

Just be careful, if this spawn doesn't survive the tables may turn and the female may go into a phase of non-receptiveness, then it is possible the male doesn't tolerate her in the tank anymore.

My post was not based upon "my stuff" but a lot of what I have gleaned from the internet! Now that I know what most of you usually talk about, I will be more careful in what I post here in the future.

Thank you for your welcoming remarks and insight.

By "the stuff" I meant the sand and caves. Not anything you did or not.

Yes, life finds a way. My first spawn of A. wapisana spawned in the corner of a bare quarantine/grow-out tank. They were tiny (and new to science and the hobby). I thought that the were juveniles.

Hi all,
Looks like a couple of 5 year members have formed a welcoming committee of sorts...just not one that a new member might expect.
We honestly aren't unfriendly, you will get an honest opinion, and the best advice we can offer.

Personally, since 2008, I have learnt so much here.

I'm British (but definitely not a supporter of <"Brexit">), and I've travelled a bit in Europe, and without wishing to stereotype our N. European neighbours, they tend to be "fairly straight to the point".

Cheers Darrel

Indeed, we try our best.

When it comes to perceived friendliness we are the anti-thesis of the US (and to a lesser degree of Canada). ;)

I appreciate your response and am not intending to stereotype anyone. "Fairly straight to the point" responses are welcome...rude is not, at least by me. Maybe it's just a language thing (misunderstanding?).

I hope so but, to my defense, I am a Canadian and that should explain everything about "being rude"!

Hey, Darrel, my comment was not directed at you and I thank you for your response!

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
