Breeding color?

I did a 30% water change and a hour later she changed color to a bright yellow did she lay eggs?

Maybe, but more likely she is just interested in breeding. Cacatuoides-group females who have eggs/fry usually don't show a lateral band. Instead, they show only a dark black lateral spot on a very brilliant yellow body.

If I saw a female in those distinct colors and inward bending stomach in my own tank, I would assume that she had laid eggs.

She has been guarding a cave for a couple days now. She won't let the male near it. I can't get a good look in that cave because of the plants in front of it. She comes out to eat but just grabs a little and darts back into the cave.

Her behavior indicates that she has eggs/larvae in the cave. When she brings out fry her color pattern should be more spectacular than now.

She has fry with her.now. I have counted six. Super excited first breeding for my young girl.

Have counted 8 think some are in the big ñygro in front of the cave.

If the tank is on the small size, <1 sq ft./fish, then I would. On the other hand, disturbing the tank could cause the female to lose her fry.

Its a 20 gal long with a ton of plants.

It should be OK, but see how the female behaves toward him.
