blackwater tank cycling?

Someone told me that ruby tetra would hide all the time but i can always find 15 or 20 of them in there so not sure why others think they hide.

The ones above don't have a lot of blue - and i was doing water changes on the basement aquariums today and i noticed the rubies down there have a lot more blue on their fin - this is a weak example but they are rater disobedient when i ask them to pose for pictures:

Hum. Mrs google suggest it has to do with lighting and not the actual fish - interesting because some of them have a whole lot of blue. This aquarium is a bit more open then the one above that is the 95.

Oh well you or at least I learn something new everyday.
