So I’m considering dithers, currently there’s a group of 8 Hyphessobrycon procyon, but I would like eventually to add a Nannostomus species
ideally I want a group of N. sp amaya, however I can source N.eques and some of the more common species a lot easier, is there much behaviour difference in the species?

Lots of differences - i find n. eques and n. epesi (quite lovely) hand near the top and are more mellow, n. margarita use the full water column and while aggressive at eating other other wise fairly tame, n trifs and their related species like pink lip can be quite territorial and aggressive and have no problem making it clear to all species including small cichild that they own an area; the red species including amaya are a bit like margirta but seem to spar more among themselves. People say n. beckfordi will go for frys I've never owned them so no personal comment.

N.espei were another top of my list but I don’t know if I can justify spending the money on them
May just go with N.eques, I did have a group of N.tri before and they terrorised the entire tank, I always thought it was a rogue group of fish but it appears they’re all that way

red form n. equeus are truly lovely but i've only seen pictures and there is a red form of uni again i've only seen pictures - i don't like uni because they are so bloody large but otherwise there isn't anything wrong with them i just wish more of the red forms were available. Not talking about red accents or tails but the entire fish markings are red. Of course they might not retain the red in the aquarium - something to consider - as most seem to come from columbia and i think columbia rivers have red dye added or something to turn all their fishes red. the red form of lineata is also from columbia as well as altum with red tails. Definitely locals must have found this magic dye to add to all the rivers.
