Hello everyone,

I have this two Apistos that I wanted to be identified.

Can you help me once more?

I know this one is a female cacatuoides, but I would like to know which variety. Is it possible to tell?

I have no idea about this one. Macmasteri? Viejita?

And if anyone is interested, pictures of the tank can be seen here.

Thank you,

Randall

Dear Marcelo,

I've tried accessing the links furnished several times now but keep getting a "Website not responding" message. :(

There we go. Now we can see them!

Looks like the first pic is a female Orange Flash cacatuoides. The second pic is probably a Macmasteri, but could just as easily be a viejita. Difficult to tell because they are so similar and the pic doesn't give the best angle of the fish.

Dear Marcelo,

I took the liberty of forwarding your ID request to Mike Wise, the American guru of Apistogramma.

Mike seems to think that the first photo is an Orange or an Orange Flash female. Mike also advises that the second photo is not the best for ID purposes, but seems to think that "it looks like a male, probably a eunotus or macmasteri form. The
fish in the upper left is A. sp. Miuá."

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Hello Randall and Neil,

I'll try to take another shot of that macmasteri/viejita/eunotus. I thought it was a female, cause it gets too yellow sometimes...

Before taking that shot, I tried to take one from a side view, but the fish ran away and the pic got blurred. I don't know if it will help, but the other picture is here.

Randall, impressive that he guessed the "Miua" with only half body showing. That one I already knew, the guys here in the forum identified it for me. I think it's the red variety. That is another one on that picture. It's a gibbiceps red, but I think that by the picture it's impossible to tell... :)

What will happen if the orange cacatuoides female breeds with a triple red male?

Thank you,
